Nancy McCrary of South x Southeast PhotoGallery will be leading a photowalk the morning of Friday, May 10th through Historic Savannah. Later that morning, Susan Laney of Laney Contemporary Gallery, will join us. These two ladies know this jewel of a city well and can’t wait to show you the finer points! In the afternoon, Tim Rowell of Dash Tours Savannah will join us as he transports us to Bonaventure Cemetery for an entirely different view. And, at the end of the day, we’ll quench your hunger and thirst at Laney Contemporary Gallery while Susan tells us about her gallery and the current exhibition.

For those of you not familiar with this coastal city, Savannah offers an astonishing array of historical architecture, some of the South’s finest gardens and parks, and a blend of unique street photography, combining contemporary and historic scenes. ITINERARY:

  • At 2 pm Dash Tours will transport us to Bonaventure Cemetery for a 2 to 3-hour tour. Bonaventure Cemetery was founded in 1846 on 146 acre scenic bluff overlooking the Wilmington River. The cemetery is most recently famous for its part in the film Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and the famous Bird Girl statue photograph made by photographer and Savannah native Jack Leigh. It’s home to an avenue of live oaks filled with Long moss which drapes the branches to the ground with silvery skeins. It is also the final resting place of many notable Southerners.
  • At 5 pm Dash Tours will bring us back to where we started. And we’ll set off for Susan’s gallery where we’ll enjoy wine and cheese while viewing of the current exhibition.
  • On the evening of Thursday, the 9th, photographer Ansley West Rivers will speak at Telfair Museums in conjunction with the opening of her exhibition. Susan and Nancy will be attending and Susan will give a short talk afterwards. Please join us!
